Visual description

Four white dots (or a white bar/strip) on the top of the Google Home or Nest Audio showing a solid constant white glow. On Nest Audio, the four white LEDs on the top panel light up to confirm touch interactions and volume levels. On older Google Home models, the four dots at the top perform the same function.

What it means

Solid white after touch: When you tap the top panel to adjust volume, four white dots light up and a chime plays. This is tactile confirmation — the white dots are showing the current volume level. The higher the volume, the more dots light up brighter.

Solid white all four dots: Volume is set to 100% or the device is completing a volume change interaction.

Solid white on Nest Mini: The Nest Mini has two LEDs near the mic. Two solid white LEDs = mic is ON (normal). These are always on when the mic is active, which can be confused for an error.

Solid white as device boots: Brief solid white during startup as the device reaches its normal state.

Brand & model variations

The same light pattern can mean different things across manufacturers.

Google

Nest Audio (2020+)

Four capacitive touch dots on top. Touching the right side raises volume — dots light up proportionally. Touching left lowers it. Solid white = interaction complete. Returns to off after ~2 seconds.Volume level shown by how many dots are lit and at what brightness. Fully lit dots = 100%. No action needed.

Google

Nest Mini (2nd gen)

Two small LEDs near the mic hole. Always solid white when mic is enabled. These are the mic status LEDs — not interaction feedback. If both go to orange: mic is muted. Two white dots on Nest Mini = mic active and ready for 'Hey Google'. Normal and expected.
